Treating Dry Damaged & Brittle Hair on Kids

Do parents know how to handle dry brittle and damages hair on kids? Yes, believe it or not toddlers and infants hair can become extremely brittle, because it's not mature enough to handle chlorine in a pool or sun exposure. How to treat it.

Yes, believe it or not toddlers and infants hair can become extremely brittle, because it's not mature enough to handle chlorine in a pool or sun exposure. When the hair is brittle it lacks proteins, shine, moisture, luster, and tends to just break off in an instant. Will the hair grow back? Yes, eventually the hair will grow back, but not until it receives proper attention. The hair needs plenty of water to keep it from dehydrating, proper diet, and proper conditioning, especially in the summer.

Analysis Of The Hair To Determine The Cause

Although the cause is probably from the sun, pool, ocean, or unkempt hair, it can also be from a certain health issue such as thyroid, ringworm, or improper diet.

If the child's hair is still brittle during the winter, spring or fall, please have them checked out.

Treating Dry, Damaged hair

Condition, condition, condition. I can not stress this matter enough. The broken hair needs to be repaired, moisturized and nourished back to it's proper strength.

There are so many great conditioners out on the market today. However, the best is homemade. Use mayonnaise, coconut oil, avocado, egg, yogurt, or rosemary.

One of my best conditioning concoctions is actually mayonnaise with chopped avocado, and plain yogurt. This recipe will give the hair gloss, luster, and protein. Do this treatment once a week for one month.

Now that the brittle hair is full of moisture, and protein don't just stop there. The hair still needs more attention.

When washing the hair, make sure to use a leave in conditioner after every wash, and try to avoid shampoos that have a high alcohol content in them. The alcohol will cause more dryness and breakage to the hair.

Trim the ends of the hair immediately. This does not mean you have to take 6 inches off. Just make sure you cut at least 1/4 of an inch to an inch all over the entire head. You can do this at home by just taking small sections of the hair and trimming the bottom off. Don't get scissor happy.

Repeat the trim in 3 weeks. Then repeat again. The new hair growth should be much healthier, and the texture should have changed for the better.
