The Best Adoption Book for Children: 'Tell Me Again About the Night I was Born' by Jamie Lee Curtis

A children's adoption story answers their questions about the night they were born.

I cannot get through Tell Me Again About the Night I Was Born without crying happy tears, remembering the night my daughter was born. There are also funny parts to it! It is written as a child speaking, asking her mother to tell her again about when she was born.

"Tell me again how the phone rang in the middle of the night and they told you I was born. Tell me again how you screamed." Okay my eyes are welling up again. This book gets to me!

The book goes on to mention calling the grandparents and how they could not be woken up! Then it tells about the plane ride to go get her. It explains how the mother could not grow a baby in her tummy, so a birth mother, who was too young to care for her, grew the baby in her tummy. The hospital picture is two pages long and you have to turn the page to see all of it right side up and see how small the adoptive parents felt at the big hospital.

The next page of Tell Me Again About the Night I Was Born shows the couple standing at a window looking at all the newborns: "You couldn't believe something so small could make you smile so big."

The next page has to be flipped up vertically as well, as it is two pages long, a baby!! With actual size written at the top and all parts of baby labeled including wrinkles. Then it shows the new mommy's happy tears and talks about the first time she held the baby. Of course, the page I relate to the most (even though I relate to it all) is the page where they take the baby home from the hospital, glaring at anyone daring to sneeze around the newborn! The picture shows the baby all covered up in a protective blanket to keep away germs. Onto the first night with baby, this page shows two exhausted parents and daddy talking to the baby about baseball. Mommy sang a lullaby just as her mommy had. The little girl at the end of the book is finally in bed asleep with a huge grin on her face. The very last page of the book shows the family of three now lying under the stars.

The pictures in the book are in color, soft colors of a cartoon family, very realistic. I would not sell this book for a million dollars. I could have written it word for word if I were funnier. It is a great book with great pictures. If you have adopted, this is the book to buy. Everyone will love it.

A heartwarming adoption story with just perfect words and pictures. Tell Me Again About the Night I Was Born is from the perspective of the child asking questions. One of my favorite adoption story books for children. It is adorable and up-to-date language is used. A loving, wonderful story that will make you cry and laugh at the same time over and over.
